“Each child contains the possibility of becoming many different children, and caring adults can determine which of those children come to life.”
                                 - James Garbarino

Twenty years ago I never would have imagined UrbanPromise growing into a multi-faceted ministry reaching hundreds of Camden’s children daily.  I never would have dreamed of our children attending schools like Cornell University, Princeton Seminary, Virginia State University, Claremont College, or Eastern University.  I never could have envisioned our youth coming back to Camden to serve as youth workers, teachers, and social workers.

That was twenty years ago—1988—a handful of volunteer missionaries launched a small after school program in East Camden.  Resources available: a used van, a church basement, donated equipment, $12,000 operating budget, a few rolls of duct tape, and lot’s of passion. Thirty children are impacted.

Twenty years later—2008—a fulltime staff of 60 people run 6 after school programs, 6 summer day camps, the largest private teen employment program in the city, The CamdenForward School, The UrbanPromise Academy, UrbanTrekkers, Gospel Choirs, Step Teams, Athletic Leagues, Workgroup Programs, College Internships……hundreds and hundreds of lives are transformed each year!

Come celebrate this miraculous, astonishing twenty-year ministry journey at our annual banquet, October 23rd, 2008.  Have your soul enriched with stories and testimonies of what God is doing in and through UrbanPromise.  God’s grace and love to you,

Dr. Bruce Main
President
