Camden students release Monarch butterflies

On Thursday, October 1st, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., the students of UrbanPromise elementary and middle school will celebrate the release of Monarch Butterflies that they have nurtured from eggs through caterpillar and chrysalis stages to regal Monarchs.  The butterflies are now ready to join in a 2000-mile mass migration to Mexico.  The eggs were collected from milkweed plants grown in a Butterfly Garden that students and volunteers keep and maintain in the campus of UrbanPromise.  The event includes a morning program with special guest speakers and a parade to the garden led by 8th grade students.

The Monarch Butterfly project has been a truly holistic learning experience, involving nature, science, writing, and art, including a mural on the wall of the UrbanPromise Art building facing the butterfly garden.
