Pedal for Promise’s ‘Senior’ Team member puts his pedal to the medal to support Camden youth

April 29, 2014…..Riverton resident William Hall has long been a bicycling enthusiast, having ridden his bike across the US and to Canada over the years, and has enjoyed many Sunday after church 50-and 60 mile excursions through South Jersey over the years.  On Saturday, Hall will take it to the streets once again  for his 5th “Pedal for Promise”- A 15, 30 or 65 mile loop throughout Burlington County, in support of UrbanPromise's innovative, experiential education in Camden, NJ.  Hall—who will celebrate his 90th birthday in August—hopes to finish the ride and raise some money for a cause that is dear to him and his wife Nancy.

“We have been involved with UrbanPromise since it’s inception,” said Hall. He and his wife learned about the innovative program that supports and nurtures children and youth in Camden at their church, Calvary Presbyterian in Riverton.  A few years ago, when the bike ride came along, Hall saw it as a perfect fit. “Riding with 200 or more people is a lot of fun and I get a lot of satisfaction from it, “said Hall.  “ And if I can raise a dollar or two for Urban Promise, even better.”  Hall solicits donations from family and   friends through a letter writing campaign targeting “those who know I am crazy enough to do this at almost 90 years of age!”

Hall and his fellow riders will be hoping for sunny skies as they loop through Burlington County, and Urban Promise is hoping for a lot of support--$175,000 worth to continue to fund its schools, camps and after school programs in Camden City.

Bill Hall and his wife Nancy think that Urban Promise and its mission to help children in Camden is nothing short of  “miraculous”, and at UrbanPromise, the feeling is mutual. “Bill Hall’s presence motivates all of us,” said Dr. Bruce Main, President and Founder of UrbanPromise. “His ride is faith in action.”
