Bethlehem Peace Light Advent Service

Dec. 14, 2022

We are delighted to have the opportunity to share the Bethlehem Peace Light with you. With the Peace Light, we share a flame that burns continuously in Jesus’ birthplace and is spread person-to-person around the world during advent. We hope you will join Bruce Main and the UrbanPromise community for this family friendly service.

Be sure to bring a candle or oil lamp to take a flame from the Peace Light home with you and share.  All are welcome.

We will also have an “open house candle lighting” from 2:00–6:00 p.m. for anyone that would like to stop by and light their candle from the Peace light.

About the Peace Light:
The Peace Light carries a long tradition to spreading light and hope across the globe. Each year, a child from Austria is named that year’s Peace Light Child and travels to Bethlehem to receive the flame from an oil lamp at the Grotto of Jesus’s birth, which according to historians, has been burning continuously for the past 1,000 years. The light is then flown to Austria where it is distributed to delegations from across Europe and then flown to JFK International Airport, where our friends at Pompton Reformed Church have generously volunteered to bring the light to UrbanPromise so that we can share this gift with our community!
