How do you spend your weekends?
Saturdays at UrbanPromise are busy—especially this fall.
How about 350 Eastern University freshman students arriving on campus for a morning of community service?
Yes, the WHOLE freshman class showed up to paint, weed, clean, mulch, dust, shovel, rake and more, last Saturday. That’s a lot of youthful energy to harness at one time! Anyone looking for a logistical challenge—how about coordinating meaningful work for a hundreds of 19-year-olds? Holy chaos at its very best.
“Thanks for this partnership with Eastern,” shared Megan Acedo, coordinator of Student Ministries and Service Learning. “We are grateful for the witness of Good News you bring to our students.” And thank you, Eastern, for broadening the vision of your students to include service.

And then, on another Saturday two weeks ago, UrbanPromise hosted the 2nd Annual Community Partner Day. Over 15 community partners set up tents and displays. Close to 200 people visited our campus, learning about the local offerings of UrbanPromise, Rutgers University, Cooper Hospital, American Water and other agencies.
“Our Food Co-Op distributed fresh produce,” explained Sio Wedderburn, Director of the UrbanPromise Wellness Center and event coordinator. “And the demand was so high, it was all given away by 11am.”
