50 new students began their journey with UrbanPromise this Fall

Sep. 26, 2025

This Fall we welcomed 50 new students and their families into our schools!

Families contribute an average of $788/year toward tuition—but to keep the first year completely free for these 50 families, we need to raise $39,400. Help us close the gap and ensure every new student starts their journey with no financial barriers.

Edith is a champion for education. As a single mother of three, in 2019, she faced a difficult decision.
Her oldest, Joanamary, was entering her junior year of high school and Edith wanted a strong finish for her grade school education. Her middle child, Pablo, was shy and timid, and he seemed to be getting lost in middle school. He did not have many friends and was increasingly uncomfortable in school.

Edith ached to find a school where her children could thrive- the right combination of education and a supportive environment–and one that she could afford.

That’s when Edith found UrbanPromise: a private school environment, small classrooms, and attentive staff. And thanks to UrbanPromise supporters, the first year is completely free.

A couple of years later, her youngest, Victoria, was diagnosed with autism and had a poor preschool experience. When it was time for Kindergarten, Victoria joined her siblings at UrbanPromise.

Soon after enrolling her kids at UrbanPromise, Edith was confident in her choice. “The teachers got involved in helping the children, especially Pablo,” she reflected. “And Ms. Bullock made sure that Victoria could access the services that she needed.”

There is brightness in her voice when she talks about how the kids are doing now.

“Pablo is a senior and he’s very expressive now. He’s more active and involved and talks to me about college. He wants to become a teacher so he can give back to UrbanPromise for all that they gave him. Victoria is doing great and is going into 3rd grade. And Joanamary is a Special Law Enforcement Officer, majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology, currently in her final semester at Rutgers University–Camden,”  Edith shared.

We’re determined to serve as many children as possible–especially now, as Camden’s public school system faces significant instability with over $90 million in budget cuts and the search for a new superintendent underway.

We are dedicated to offering a place where children can thrive! And that’s why we need your support–to help parents like Edith have an affordable option amidst such uncertainty.

Enrollment is strong this year, and our waitlists are growing faster than we’ve seen in years. This fall, we’ll welcome a total of 167 students—including 50 new students—into our schools.

Families pay an average of $788/yr for their portion of tuition. To keep the first year free for 50 families, we’ll need $39,400. Help us to cover the gap and keep the free first-year for all new students.

It is only through your generosity that we can provide a free first year, and very affordable tuition every year after. I hope you’ll partner with us to make this another great year for students at UrbanPromise.
