In a rare event, a flame kindled at the Grotto of Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem, Israel, has journeyed across continents and is set to arrive at UrbanPromise in Camden on Wednesday, December 13th. This perpetual flame, burning for over 1,000 years, will be shared with the community in a candle lighting ceremony.
The flame’s incredible journey began when a child walked into the Grotto in Bethlehem, lit a candle, and ignited a tradition that has spanned centuries. Transported to Austria and then to JFK Airport in NYC, a pastor and friend of UrbanPromise will bring the flame to our community, symbolizing unity, hope, and peace.
At the Chapel Service, UrbanPromise’s middle school students will be in attendance, actively participating in the event. This candle lighting ceremony serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of peace. As we witness the flame that has endured for a millennium, let it inspire us to work towards peace and unity in our world today.
