Ecological History Paddle Tour

Summer 2026

At UrbanPromise, our students are actively engaged in the protection of our local waterways by stimulating their curiosity out of the classroom and with the community. Students monitor the water quality year-round and lead tours along the Cooper River and Delaware River to share the stories of our urban water trail. Jump on a canoe built by local students and volunteers in our Boatworks Program and find your sense of wonder on the water.

We offer tours from June to August to all groups and individuals. Our mission is to share the beauty of local rivers by providing safe and accessible paddling opportunities to the Camden community. As a part of the  Riverways Coalition , our staff and students are a part of a network pushing for safe and equitable solutions that connect Philadelphia and Camden communities to their waterways!

Find out what we offer and how your group can get out on the water!

Our most immersive experience meets at the  Kaighn Avenue Dam . Travel down the Cooper River with the birds, fish, and history of the Cooper River waterfront. We will shuttle your group from Pyne Point Park to Kaighn Avenue Dam at the end of the paddle event. Please prepare for 2-3 hour adventure of paddling and lifting canoes. Bring enough water and sun protection (sunscreen and hat).

Our Community Paddle Trips create opportunities for youth, families, and neighbors to experience the beauty of Camden’s waterways together. Through guided paddles along the Cooper and Delaware Rivers, participants build confidence, connect with nature, and discover the joy and wonder of being on the water.
