Paddle with UrbanPromise
At UrbanPromise, students play an active role in protecting and restoring our local waterways. Through hands-on environmental education, they monitor water quality year-round and lead tours that share the stories of Camden’s urban water trail with the wider community.
Guests paddle in canoes handcrafted by local students through our Boatworks Program, creating a meaningful connection between community, craftsmanship, and environmental stewardship. Whether you are stepping into a canoe for the first time or are an experienced paddler, this experience invites you to slow down, explore, and rediscover a sense of wonder on the water.
As part of the Riverways Coalition, UrbanPromise staff and students are proud to join a growing movement advocating for safe, equitable access to waterways for both Camden and Philadelphia communities.
Ecological History Paddle Tour
The Ecological History Paddle Tour is an immersive river experience that begins at the Kaighn Avenue Dam and journeys down the Cooper River through the wildlife, history, and beauty of Camden’s waterfront.
As paddlers travel the river, they encounter the birds, fish, and ecosystems that make this urban waterway unique while learning about the rich ecological and cultural history of the Cooper and Delaware Rivers.
Tours are offered from June through August for individuals and groups. Our mission is to provide safe and accessible paddling opportunities while helping the Camden community reconnect with the beauty and importance of our local rivers.
