Calvin Carthan

As Principal of the UrbanPromise Academy, Calvin loves to learn about and build relationships with students and their families.

After growing up in South Jersey, Calvin graduated from Ursinus with a Bachelors of Science in Exercise and Sports Science. Calvin joined UrbanPromise in 2022 with 20 years of experience in youth development and education. The majority of his career was at the Greater Philadelphia YMCA where he started as a Camp Counselor then transitioned through the ranks to be the Senior Director of School-Aged Childcare and Camp. He saw his transition to UrbanPromise as an opportunity to express his faith more directly and to work more directly in the school realm.

Calvin and his wife Candyce have two children and are very active in their church. Calvin is a piano player and minister at their church.
