Tom Kulp

As Experiential Learning Director, Tom has a passion for creating hands-on learning experiences that make academic learning real and practical.

Tom began his journey with UrbanPromise as a volunteer in 1992 and was a founding member of both the Trekkers and BoatWorks programs—two initiatives he now leads.  His transition to UrbanPromise reflects a deep desire to expand educational opportunities for underserved youth and to help create pathways into meaningful careers that can sustain a family.

Originally from the Philadelphia suburbs, Tom holds both a BS and MS in Structural and Electrical Engineering. After 43 years working in industry and as a consultant, he joined the staff in September 2023. He also served for over 20 years with the youth group at his church, co-leading eleven week-long youth mission trips. Tom and his wife Lisa have three children and one grandchild. They are both active members of their church’s Equity and Social Justice Team.
